PRESS RELEASE

SARAH ANDERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CONCERT PRESENTED BY THE AUBURN UNIVERSITY SYMPHONIC WINDS AND THE OPELIKA HIGH SCHOOL SYMPHONIC BAND

AUBURN — The Auburn University College of Liberal Arts, Department of Music, Auburn University Bands and the Opelika High School Bands are proud to present a Memorial Scholarship Concert for Sarah Anderson on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 7:30 p.m., at the Opelika Performing Arts Center at Opelika High School. To celebrate the life of Sarah Anderson, the Auburn University Symphonic Winds and the Opelika High School Symphonic Band will share the stage in reflection and remembrance. The concert was previously scheduled on Monday, November 16, 2009, the day of Sarah Anderson’s funeral.

Sarah Anderson was a member of the Symphonic, Concert and Marching Bands during her time at Auburn. Her life ended unexpectedly due to a fatal car accident on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. In addition to participating in many Auburn University music ensembles, Sarah was also a music major studying flute. The AU Symphonic Winds is pleased to feature Dr. Karen Garrison, flute professor at AU, on Gary Shocker’s Regrets and Resolutions.

The concert is free to the public. Donations are encouraged and will be used to initiate the Sarah Anderson Memorial Scholarship through Kappa Kappa Psi, a National Honorary Band Service Fraternity in which Sarah was a devoted member. If anyone would like to contribute to the fund but is unable to be present, they can send a check or money order to: Kappa Kappa Psi; c/o Sarah Anderson Memorial Scholarship; 132 Goodwin Music Building; Auburn University, AL 36849-5421.
